EU Green week webinar
26th May 2021 16:00-18:00
"Hazelnut crisis in Tuscia, a possible case of ecocide ?"
As part of the EU Green Week 2021 Stop Ecocide and RIPA are co-hosting a webinar May 26 16:00 - 18:00 on the theme, "Hazelnut crisis in Tuscia, a possible case of ecocide ?" with local, national and international speakers preceded by the screening of the film "Omelia Contadina" by Alice Rohrwacher and JR.
The goal of this webinar is to discuss in depth the legal implications of an impending ecological disaster on our land and share them with a national and pan-European audience as one example of many such cases. The situation caused by industrial chemical monoculture risks seriously impoverishing the agricultural land of Tuscia, its biodiversity, and ultimately contributes to a large extent to the eutrophication of Lake Bolsena. Industrial monocultures of this type have proliferated exponentially in Tuscia since 2018, and they urgently need to transition to organic.
There are participants from our Biodistrict promoting group: Gabriele Antoniella, PhD student at the University of Tuscia, farmer and activist, and Ottavio Capparella, lawyer and founder of the environmental think tank Accademia Kronos. With them we are delighted to have Jojo Mehta, the co-founder and director of StopEcocide International, the Italian MEP Eleonora Evi MEP member of the Verde / ALE Group in the European Parliament and of the Ecocide Alliance, and Lara Fornabaio, lawyer specialist in agriculture at Client Earth reputedly the world's largest environmentally focussed law firm. The discussion will be moderated by Manlio Masucci, author of the seminal article on this topic 'Noccioland' and communication manager of Navdanya International.
